I think it’s safe to say that we’re all ready for winter to be over. Truthfully, we’re always a bit hesitant to schedule engagement sessions in the winter and yes, it’s because we’re wimps about the cold. :) But when there’s a fluke day that makes Midwesterners think that it feels like summer (when, actually, it’s only in the 40s), then we’re up for heading outside with our cameras. Warm sun, beautiful light, and no bulky winter coats needed — the perfect day for a winter engagement session.

Here are just a few images of the adorable Jason + Kasey!

If you haven’t yet heard of Norskedalen, you’re missing out and we will show it to you today.  And if you haven’t yet met Brian and Anne (pronounced “annie”) you’re also missing out. :) They are one of the sweetest couples we’ve had the pleasure of photographing; light-hearted, genuine, peaceful, and, well, we bet you would like them. :)

Brian is the kind of guy who isn’t afraid to show his emotions. It always tugs our heartstrings a bit when a groom cries — we love it and think it speaks volumes about how he cares for the lady he is going to marry.

We hope you enjoy this little glimpse of sweetness from Brian + Anne’s wedding day.

These are a few of our favorite things: couples who get ready in beautiful spaces with lots of natural light, being warmly greeted by a giggly bride and super-excited-for-her friends, outdoor everything, extremely small wedding parties, a bride who designs her own wedding dress (!), dreamy light during portraits, genuine hugs from family and friends, international guests who travel from afar (only a handful of guests were from the area) to a tiny little valley in western Wisconsin… called Norskedalen.

All of this, and more, took place at Diego + Rebecca’s wedding. This was also the first time we worked with Weddings by Nancy — if you’re a bride looking into having a planner, check them out! They were wonderful to work with.

And just for fun, we added a few stop motion clips in throughout this post because real life is always moving. :)

Our time at Norskedalen was one of the most peaceful, calm, and wonderful settings we’ve been in for an engagement session. The soundtrack that played in the background was a constant mix of birds chirping, wind blowing, and water rushing. And it soo, so perfectly fit the personalities of Brian + Anne. These two are so calm and sweet around each other that all the subtle glances, tight squeezes and sincere laughs were so fun to capture. They are really adorable and sweet together… here are just a few of our favorites from their session:

I (Kelly) had to get on Ray’s shoulders to get this last image. Anne and Brian laughed at me a little but I told them it would be worth it. Teamwork. ;)

It’s amazing how fun – yet difficult – it is to look back on and choose favorites from an entire year’s worth of images. We did the math and realized we’ve delivered around 14,000 images to our clients throughout this year. That kind of a lot, right? Trying to search through those and decide on our absolute favorites is amazingly tricky. Yes, Ray and I are a team but we don’t always have the same preferences. :)

Over the past few days, we’ve focused on updating our portfolio (so go check out all the new/updated portfolio galleries!), but here is a very small selection of our absolute favorite images from 2011 – our top 10, we think. :) Every one of these images evokes some sort of emotion in both of us, even after looking at them close to hundreds of times.

We’re so deeply grateful that you chose us to be a part of your wedding. We only have images like this because each of you invited us in and trusted us to do what we love.

Thank you. So much.
